Koh or ko means island or islands in Thai. Mu koh or mu ko means islands. Mu means group in Thai.

Ao = Bay

Ao Maya = Maya Bay
Ao Patok = Patok Bay
Ao Nang = Ao Nang Bay

The Thai word ao means bay. It can refer to bays of any size that may or may not have a beach. Ao can also be used to refer to a gulf, such as Ao Thai means the Gulf of Thailand.

If the bay have a beach it can say haad that means beach.
Like Monkey Bay on Koh Phi Phi when the tide is high. Or Monkey Beach when the tide is low and the beach appear.
