Similan is a Yawi word (a Malayan dialect) which means nine. It’s mean the group of the nine islands. Koh Similan had originally nine islands numbered 1 to 9 but now expanded to include two more remote islands. The main islands including Koh 4, Koh 7, Koh 8 and Koh 9.
