where i keep my vanda so it gets the right sun, air, and space to grow

the rule i always follow
vanda needs three things
sunlight
airflow
space for the roots
if i give it these three, the plant grows fast and stays strong.
my favorite spot: the balcony
i keep most of my vanda on the balcony because it gets morning sun and good airflow.
the roots dry at a healthy speed, and the leaves stay firm.
it’s the easiest place for me to check the plant every day.
morning sun zone
i place my vanda where the sun hits from around 7 to 11 am.
this light is warm and gentle, perfect for vanda.
the leaves get a soft yellow‑green tone, which means the light is just right.
bright light all day
after the morning sun, i make sure the plant still gets bright light.
not direct afternoon heat, just brightness.
this keeps the roots active without burning the leaves.
avoiding harsh afternoon sun
afternoon sun is strong and sharp.
i avoid placing my vanda where the sun hits directly after noon.
if i can’t avoid it, i use partial shade or move the plant slightly to the side.
airflow matters
vanda hates still air.
i place mine where the breeze moves gently through the roots.
this keeps the plant dry enough to avoid rot but moist enough to grow.
hanging vs placing
hanging
my favorite way. roots get full airflow, and the plant dries evenly.
placing on a shelf
works only if the shelf has open slats and good airflow.
i avoid solid surfaces because they trap moisture.
how i know the placement is good
- leaves feel firm
- roots push new tips
- roots dry at a healthy speed
- no yellow burn patches
- the plant feels stable and strong
how i know i need to move the plant
- leaves turn dark green
means not enough light - roots stay silver too long
means too little sun or airflow - yellow patches
means too much direct afternoon sun - no new roots for weeks
means the plant wants more light
small home tips
if i have limited space
i hang the vanda near a bright window with morning sun
i keep airflow with a small fan on low
i avoid placing it in corners or behind walls
if i have a big balcony
i give the vanda a spot with morning sun and open air
i hang it high enough so the roots don’t touch anything
