ancient city, bangkok in retro mode before pam serum

2014 trip with my olympus epm2

ancient city was a place I visited back in 2014
I was still using my olympus epm2, my little favorite camera at the time
I had acne, I had zero budget, but I still wanted to go
because ancient city gives you the whole old‑thai vibe in one giant place

ancient city is the largest outdoor private museum in the world
huge space, full of thai architecture from different eras and regions
it feels like walking inside a history book
but the version you can actually explore

ancient city

who it’s for

perfect if you want a full thai culture overview in one day
old temples, recreated palaces, traditional houses from every region
everything built with detail
like thailand packed into one map

foreign travelers love it
tons of youtube reviews from international creators
thai visitors enjoy it too
especially people who love photography or architecture

how to explore, pam trip style

the place is huge
if you want to see everything, bike or golf cart is the move
walking only is not realistic
there are zones for north, northeast, central, south, plus historic reconstructions

I went early morning and stayed until evening
still didn’t finish
every spot has details
and it’s super photogenic

biking in ancient city

tips to make it worth it

go early for good light and cooler weather
bike or rent a golf cart to cover all zones
bring water, the area is big
wear comfy shoes
wide lens recommended if you love shooting architecture

end the day at bangpu

leave ancient city before 2 pm
you’ll reach bangpu in time for seagulls and sunset
the light there is beautiful
and it matches the retro vibe of ancient city perfectly

bangpu

pam’s take

ancient city is a place that teaches you a lot in one day
wide space, fun to explore, great for photos
and it’s a trip I remember clearly
acne era, low budget era
but still wanting to capture everything with my olympus epm2

if I go again
I’m going with clear skin
and I’m taking even better photos
