one day, three plant shops, and an orchid i never planned to bring home

the beginning

i started the day at the heliconia shop, dreaming of a thai rainforest garden

i drove to khlong 15 with one clear plan: visit the heliconia shop first. i wanted my garden to feel like a thai rainforest — big leaves, soft humidity, and that tropical resort vibe i love.

the shop owner was incredibly kind. when i mentioned i already had heliconias at home, he said, “no need to buy more, yours will shoot new pups soon. they grow fast.”

he wasn’t trying to sell me anything. he was genuinely giving advice. that’s the charm of thai plant markets.

the second stop: dwarf champa

after heliconias, i walked into a dwarf champa shop. this was the moment i realized how different khlong 15 is compared to online shopping.

• walking roots = recovering plant
• yellow bottom leaves = normal
• thick new canes = perfect light

the first orchid became the start of my new plant journey

i placed the orchids in a bright morning‑sun corner with good airflow. within days, the roots started moving. the plants responded quickly — dendrobiums always do when they’re happy.
