laptop by the window

a simple reason i prefer a laptop over a desktop pc

it is not really about portability

i started realizing that one reason i like laptops is not because they are portable. it is because i rarely work in the same place every morning. some days i sit near a window. some days i move to another room. sometimes i take my laptop to a cafe. the work is still the same, but the environment is different.

when people talk about laptops, portability is usually the first thing they mention. being able to carry a computer around is useful, but that has never been the main reason for me. what i appreciate most is being able to change my environment whenever i want. i can move to wherever feels comfortable that morning without changing how i work.

the view affects how i think

i have noticed that many of my article ideas appear during those moments. when i sit at the same desk every day, i tend to think about the same things. when the view changes, my attention changes too. i notice details that i would normally ignore.

it might be sunlight coming through a different window. it might be something happening outside. it might even be a conversation at a nearby table when i’m working from a cafe. they are small things, but sometimes they make me think about a topic in a different way. many article ideas start from simple observations like that.

why i enjoy working in the morning

one reason i notice these things more often is because i like working early in the morning. before the day gets busy, everything feels quieter. there are fewer notifications, fewer interruptions, and fewer things competing for attention. i do not always start working right away. sometimes i spend a few minutes looking outside before opening a document or checking emails.

those quiet moments often end up being productive in a different way. i am not necessarily getting more work done, but i am paying more attention to things around me.

watching the sunrise

one of my favorite examples is watching the sunrise while using my laptop. i do not do it because i am trying to be creative. i simply enjoy starting the day that way. being able to sit wherever the view is best and continue working is something i appreciate more than any specification on a product sheet.

a desktop pc may be more powerful, but it cannot move with me. it stays in one place. a laptop lets me work near a sunny window at 7 am, move to another room later, or take the same workspace with me when i travel.

why i keep choosing a laptop

that is why i do not see a laptop as just a computer. for me, it is a tool that lets me change my workspace whenever i want. some mornings i end up doing more thinking than actual work. those are often the mornings when i come up with the best ideas.

when i look back at many of the articles i have written, quite a few started during those quiet morning hours. not because i was searching for ideas, but because i happened to be sitting somewhere different, looking at something different, and paying attention to things i would normally overlook.

that is probably the biggest reason i keep choosing a laptop. not because it is portable, but because it gives me the freedom to work wherever i feel most comfortable, and sometimes that is all it takes to see something from a different perspective.
