a lot of orchids are beautiful
but dendrobiums are the ones i keep coming back to
every time i add a new plant to my collection, i find myself looking at another dendrobium shortly after. over time, i’ve realized there are a few simple reasons why they have become one of my favorite orchids.
beautiful flowers
the first reason is obvious. dendrobiums produce flowers that immediately catch my attention. some have bright colors, some have soft colors, and some have large blooms while others carry dozens of flowers on a single spike.
what i enjoy most is the variety. no matter how many dendrobiums i grow, there always seems to be another color, shape, or pattern that feels different from the ones i already have.
they bloom easily
i appreciate orchids that reward good care, and many dendrobiums do exactly that.
once a plant is healthy and receiving enough light, flowering often feels straightforward. i don’t have to spend months wondering whether a spike will appear. when growing conditions are right, dendrobiums usually let me know that they are happy.
seeing new spikes emerge is one of the most satisfying parts of growing them.
the flowers last a long time
another reason i like dendrobiums is that the flowers stay attractive for weeks.
some plants give a beautiful display that disappears quickly. with dendrobiums, i have more time to enjoy the blooms. every morning when i check my plants, the flowers are still there, still colorful, and still looking fresh.
that long flowering period makes the wait feel worthwhile.
there is always another one to collect
what started as growing one dendrobium slowly turned into growing several.
after finding a variety i liked, i discovered another with a different color. then another with larger flowers. then another with a completely different look.
the diversity within the dendrobium family makes collecting them difficult to resist.
why i keep growing them
for me, dendrobiums have the combination i’m always looking for in an orchid. they are beautiful, they bloom relatively easily, and their flowers last long enough to enjoy.
those three qualities alone are enough to keep them among my favorite orchids, and they are probably the reason my collection keeps growing.
