i keep most of my vanda on the balcony because it gets morning sun and good airflow.
the roots dry at a healthy speed, and the leaves stay firm.
it’s the easiest place for me to check the plant every day.
morning sun zone
i place my vanda where the sun hits from around 7 to 11 am.
this light is warm and gentle, perfect for vanda.
the leaves get a soft yellow‑green tone, which means the light is just right.
bright light all day
after the morning sun, i make sure the plant still gets bright light.
not direct afternoon heat, just brightness.
this keeps the roots active without burning the leaves.
avoiding harsh afternoon sun
afternoon sun is strong and sharp.
i avoid placing my vanda where the sun hits directly after noon.
if i can’t avoid it, i use partial shade or move the plant slightly to the side.
airflow matters
vanda hates still air.
i place mine where the breeze moves gently through the roots.
this keeps the plant dry enough to avoid rot but moist enough to grow.

how i know i need to move the plant
- leaves turn dark green
means not enough light - roots stay silver too long
